31 Days of Vulture Culture – Day 13
13) Have you ever thought that you were going to be sick while cleaning something?
Again a text only post, on account of the fact that I don’t (currently) do my own cleaning, but I will take this moment to share future plans!
My goal for myself this year is to get all the supplies and permits necessary to go rabbit hunting. My wife loves rabbit meat and it’s hard to get if you aren’t a hunter in this area. As rabbits can be taken via air rifle (which is only about a $100 purchase and doesn’t require the same permits as actual guns), the items required for a good rabbit hunt are the air rifle and it’s accessories ($200 or so), a small game hunting license ($40), and a one day gun safety course that is usually free. So for less than $300, plus the cost of gas to get to the hunting area, I’ll be taking some rabbits for my wife.
As a benefit of this for myself, I’ll get to keep and home tan the pelts and – at least for the first couple of rabbits – clean and keep the skeletons. Now, pertaining to the question – that’s actually my biggest fear as far as these plans. I’ve cut up a lot of odd meat (the most recent being beef hearts), and I’ve dissected a frog in biology class without getting sick, but that’s not holding a dead animal who’s life I just took and proceeding to skin, gut, and butcher it. Not to mention the cleaning process that comes AFTERWARDS.
So despite all my attempts to prepare myself for the entirety of this process, I won’t know until I actually am down to the wire with the dead rabbit in my hands if I’ll be able to pull this off.
So that’s what I have to talk about for day 13!
