31 Days of Vulture Culture – Day 16
16) Any taxidermy experience?
Well…yes, and no. See, that’s Dylan up there. My wonderful taxidermist friend sent him to me, along with a head form with the eyes already put in. I intend to, eventually, soft mount him. The only problem is that I have no way of replacing him if I do it wrong and he ends up looking horrible – or worse, falling apart.
So he sits in my storage box, along with his head form, awaiting the day that I have the funds and the bravery to buy the rest of the supplies I need (ear forms, critter clay, hide paste, stuffing, etc) and actually make the attempt of soaking and finishing him.
I have all the knowledge, but having never put it into practice, I have a fear of failure that has paralyzed me as far as going ahead with the project that is Dylan.
Hopefully some day the bravery and the funds will coincide, and I’ll end up with a lovely grey fox soft mount.
Either that or someone with much more confidence in their abilities offers to do it for me out of pity. 😛
And that’s it for day 16!
