[TAE] A Bit Of Filler

Monday, October 13, 2014

I admit – I had a post I’d been working on for this week, but in the excitement of Grandpa coming home from the rehab facility and our schedules changing yet again, I didn’t have a chance to finish it. Instead, how about a bit of filler!

Last week I talked about some spooky nostalgia with the Goosebumps series of books that I read a lot of when I was younger. Turns out I probably should’ve waited until this week to post spooky stuff, because Nickelodeon’s  great 90’s series,  Are You Afraid Of The Dark, has been compiled together by Reddit user R2Teep2, and put into a comprehensive list that lets you watch through the entire series on YouTube!are_you_afraid_of_the_dark

Now, unlike the Goosebumps tv series, I didn’t get to watch Are You Afraid Of The Dark when I was growing up – mostly because neither I nor anyone I knew had cable. I didn’t find out just how many great shows I missed out on by this lack of cable until long after I moved out of my parents house and my wife and I were comparing our childhood after-school TV schedules.

It was through her that I first heard of things like AYAotD and other 90’s era Nick shows like Salute Your Shorts, Adventures of Pete and Pete, You Can’t Do That On Television, and more. But, of course, I just had her memories to go off of for most of them – sometimes a title sequence or something she could find on YouTube, but mostly it was just a sharing of memories.

Until recently.

Nostalgia has always had a place in humankind. So it was rather inevitable that eventually our childhood shows – cable based or not – would show up on the internet in some watchable way. Between Netflix, YouTubeCrackle, Hulu, and the myriad of other TV show sources online, it was just a matter of time before I finally got to experience the shows I’d missed, growing up. And rewatch the ones I didn’t miss!

The Goosebumps series is available on Netflix streaming as well, so between that and the compiled episodes of Are You Afraid Of The Dark, I’m sure that should give you all plenty of great spooky stuff to watch until my next post, next week! (See, I told you it was filler!)
